Great and Little Crakehall - now known more generally as

Crakehall . . .

'Slide show of the village in pictures.'

. . . is a small, compact village
(pictured above, from the air)
just 4 miles from the A1 on the main A684 road
from Bedale to the Lake District, which puts it at
the gateway to Wensleydale.

Nestling between two beautiful National Parks,
it makes an ideal centre from which to explore
the Dales and Moors of North Yorkshire.

(North Yorkshire was voted the 'Most Beautiful County in England' in 2008!!

Within the village there are a number of holiday cottages, bed & breakfast accommodations and caravan sites as well as many well known
nearby attractions within about 30 minutes drive.

Although North Yorkshire has many attractive villages, Crakehall has rightly been described as the prettiest of those in the lower Dales.
The five-acre village green with its giant sycamores and lime trees is dominated by Crakehall Hall and is enclosed by stone built
cottages dating back to the 1750's.
Overlooked by the village Inn, the green hosts both cricket and quoits to provide the typical village green scene in summer.

Pick Pocket Warning!!

North Yorkshire Police would like to warn people of a scam used by pick pocket gangs at retail parks and supermarkets.
Usually gangs of three will target a lone female within the store at the check out till, when the victim enters their bank or credit card pin number at the till
one of the team will watch them and record the pin number in their mobile phone.
The victim will be followed to her car and as they unpack their shopping be distracted away from their car by a second gang member
often on the pretext of asking for directions to a hospital, the other gang members will then steal
money and the card which they have a pin number for leaving the purse or wallet intact.
Often the victim does not realise the theft until they get home or the following day.
Please be vigilant for this sort of crime, keep pin numbers and wallets, purses and handbags secure and report any suspicious activity.
Thank you

Rogue Scrap Dealers!!

We would like to draw your attention to an increase in the number of scrap dealers who have been traveling the area touting for business.
Typically vehicles are Ford Transit Flatbacks or similar, one of these vehicles being a White Nissan Pickup reg
V865NMA which was seen in Sowerby near Thirsk recently.

On the afternoon on 27th May we received a report of a suspicious vehicle in our area loaded with scrap. The occupants were going from house to house asking for any scrap metal. Officers attended and searched the vehicle. They found that the men where also taking other items that they did not have permission to remove. All the occupants were arrested and taken to Northallerton police station. Further enquiries and searches were carried out on our behalf by Cleveland Police. As a result one person was charged and will appear at court. Other enquiries are continuing. Please continue to look out for such vehicles and people and pass on sightings as soon as you can to North Yorkshire Polce on 0845 60 60 247.
